The current siding is a wood lathe siding that is at the end of its life. The siding does not have backer and i will not be adding it. What i want to accomplish is giving my home more impact strength from possible storm projectiles. Since i am doing this predominantly myself i of course have to be cognizant of the weather while things are exposed.

If i understand celotex properly the fiberboard with a black asphalt face it is designed to be a weather resistant barrier without anything else on top. I m going to be removing all of it and putting up new zip system sheathing and then new vinyl siding. Any experience with renovating with celotex. Now before i put up the new vinyl siding i m thinking that adding at least a 1 4 fanfold foam layer would be a good idea especially after reading your article.

Also i was thinking of house wrapping this before siding just to seal it up a little better. Can i remove the wood and side over celotex. I think it may have been better in this case to have not removed the masonite and just replaced damage and side over original siding. My particular question concerns the air sealing.

Last edited by andrew r. The house was built in 1973 with some later additions done by prior owners. The problem is i don t have the budget for vinyl siding and sheeting. My house has the black celotex fiber board under the aluminum siding on the first story and plywood on the second.

Hello we are desiging the residing of our house located in central new york state. But given the age and all the nail holes from the old siding i d want extra protection. We are going to take the opportunity to add air sealing water management rigid insulation a rainscreen some new windows then fiber cement lap siding.
